The thought behind Annara.

Mamatha Byalal ChindappaFounder, Annara Café

Founded by Mamatha Byalal Chindappa, Annara brings together thoughtful design, vegetarian South Indian food and a belief in everyday connection.

Three ideas sit inside that sentence, and together they describe the café Annara is setting out to be. None of them is meant as a slogan for the wall. Each is a decision about how a place should feel when you walk in, sit down and lose track of the time.

A room that settles you rather than impresses you. Food that is familiar, vegetarian and rooted in Karnataka. And the quiet, everyday kind of connection that turns a café into somewhere you come back to without needing a reason.

What Annara brings together

Design, food and connection are often treated as separate things. At Annara they are meant to work as one: the room shapes the meal, the meal gathers the people, and the people give the room its life.

Thoughtful design

Made to be lived in.

Annara is being shaped around natural, tactile materials and warm light. When a space is considered with care, you notice the food, the company and the light through the window, not the decoration.

We are making room for every kind of visit, and for walls that leave space for art, so there is always something new to look at over a coffee. Design, here, is a form of hospitality: it should welcome you before anyone has said hello.

Vegetarian South Indian food

Food first, always.

Annara begins with food, and the name carries it. The café is vegetarian throughout and rooted in Karnataka, with South Indian cooking expressed through a Bengaluru lens: generous, unfussy and made to be enjoyed every day.

Think of the breakfasts this part of the country is known for: soft idli, crisp vada, a warm plate of khara bath, and a steel tumbler of filter coffee to finish. Annara's own menu is still being finalised, and we will share it when it is ready. The intention is already clear: familiar food, thoughtfully made, worth coming back for.

Everyday connection

A table that grows.

The rest of the name is ahara, and it is why Annara is about more than the plate. A good café becomes part of the rhythm of a neighbourhood: a breakfast before work, a coffee between plans, a chair pulled up as another friend arrives.

We hope to make room for music up close, art on the walls, and conversations among readers, makers and curious minds. Families are welcome, and so is the person who comes alone with a book.

Made for Vidyaranyapura.

Annara is being built in Vidyaranyapura, in north Bengaluru, as a neighbourhood café first: for the people who live, study and work nearby, and for anyone who finds their way here for a good filter coffee.
