Questions, answered.
Everything we can tell you about Annara so far, from the food and the filter coffee to visiting, gatherings and getting in touch. Where something is still being decided, we say so plainly.

About Annara
The café, the name and the people behind it.

What is Annara?
Annara is a contemporary South Indian café: vegetarian, rooted in Karnataka and expressed through a Bengaluru lens. We want it to be an everyday place in north Bengaluru for good food, a filter coffee and unhurried time with the people you like.
What does the name mean?
Annara brings together two ideas. Anna (ಅನ್ನ) means food, grain and sustenance. Ahara (ಆಹಾರ) means nourishment in a broader sense: what we eat, see, hear, feel and share. Food is the anchor, and design, art, music and conversation fill in the rest.
Who is behind Annara?
Founded by Mamatha Byalal Chindappa, Annara brings together thoughtful design, vegetarian South Indian food and a belief in everyday connection. Annara is a brand under Byalal Group Private Limited, Bengaluru.
When will Annara open?
The opening date is not set yet, so there is no date we can honestly give you today. When it is decided, it will appear on this page first. To hear directly, send us a message and tick the box asking us to let you know when Annara opens, or say hello on WhatsApp and ask us to tell you.
Who is Annara for?
Everyone in the neighbourhood and beyond: regulars on their way to work, families, students, young professionals, readers and solo diners, local creatives, and anyone in need of a good filter coffee. We are making room for the whole family, and for the guest who comes alone with a book.
Food and dietary
What we cook, how we think about it, and what to ask us.

Is Annara fully vegetarian?
Yes. Annara is a vegetarian café, and everything on our menu will be vegetarian. Vegetarian does not mean vegan or free from allergens, so please ask us about ingredients whenever you need to.
What kind of food will you serve?
Vegetarian South Indian food rooted in Karnataka, made for everyday moments: a familiar breakfast, a proper meal, a filter coffee and something sweet to finish. The dishes themselves are being finalised with care, and we would rather show you a finished menu than a guess.
Can I see the menu and prices?
Not yet. The full menu, with prices and a copy you can download, arrives with our opening. It will live on our menu page, ready to read before you visit.
Will there be vegan, Jain or gluten-free choices?
We cannot promise specific vegan, Jain, onion and garlic free or gluten-free dishes until the menu is final. Tell us what you need through the form or on WhatsApp: it genuinely helps as we plan, and we will share what we can offer here as we open.
How do you handle allergies?
Please always ask us before you order. South Indian cooking often uses ghee, curd and milk, cashews and other nuts, and wheat or semolina in some dishes, so a vegetarian kitchen is not an allergen-free one. When we are open, we will gladly talk you through what goes into a dish.
Filter coffee
The pause at the heart of Annara.
Will you serve filter coffee?
Yes. Filter coffee sits at the heart of Annara, made for the pause between plans, the catch-up with a friend or a moment of your own. Other drinks will join it on the menu, which we will share as we open.
What makes South Indian filter coffee different?
It starts with dark-roasted coffee, often blended with a little chicory, packed into a two-part metal filter. Hot water drips through slowly to make a strong decoction, which is mixed with hot milk and sugar and poured between a tumbler and a davara until it froths. It is a drink of patience, and a ritual many homes in Karnataka begin the day with.
Where will your coffee come from?
We are still choosing our coffee and will share where it comes from once it is settled. Karnataka grows most of India's coffee, in the hills of Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan, so we are in good company.
Visiting
Where we are, and what we can and cannot confirm yet.
Where is Annara?
Annara is taking shape in Vidyaranyapura, in north Bengaluru. Full address to follow as we open: we will share it here and on our visit page, with directions.
What will your opening hours be?
Our hours are not set yet. We will publish them here and on our visit page as we open, so you will know before you set out.
Do I need to book a table?
We are not taking reservations yet. Before we open, we will explain here how tables work and whether you can book ahead.
Is there parking or Wi-Fi?
We cannot confirm parking, Wi-Fi or other facilities yet, and we would rather tell you once they are certain than make a promise we cannot keep. We will share them here as we open.
Will the café be accessible?
We want everyone to feel welcome at Annara. We cannot yet describe the café's entrance, seating or facilities in detail, and we will share that information here as we open. If you have a particular need, tell us now: it helps us plan. This website has its own accessibility statement, linked at the foot of every page.
Can I bring a book or my laptop and stay a while?
A book, a notebook and a slow coffee are exactly the kind of company we hope to see. We cannot yet confirm Wi-Fi, power points or how longer stays will work, so we will share that here as we open.
Gatherings and collaborations
Music, art and conversation, and how to bring yours.

Will Annara host music, art or talks?
We are making room for art, music and ideas: intimate music where the sound is close enough to feel, art on the walls that changes over time, and small gatherings for readers, makers and curious minds. There are no dates yet, and when there are, you will find them here first.
I am an artist, musician or maker. How can we work together?
We would love to hear from you. Send us a message, choose Collaboration, and tell us about your work, with a link if you have one. We cannot promise a date or a wall just yet, but every note helps us shape what Annara becomes, and we will be in touch.
Can I suggest a gathering or a workshop?
Yes, please do. Tell us the idea, who it is for and what it needs. We are listening closely to the neighbourhood as we plan, and we will share confirmed gatherings here with their details.
Orders, reservations and events
What is possible now, and what may come later.
Can I order online, for delivery or for pickup?
Not yet. Online ordering, delivery, pickup and ordering at the table by QR code are all things we may offer later. We will share them here when they are ready.
Can I book Annara for a private event, catering or venue hire?
Not yet. Private events, catering and venue hire are on our list for the future, and we will share them when they are ready. If you have an occasion in mind, you are welcome to tell us about it.
Do you offer gift cards or a loyalty programme?
Not yet. Gift cards, a loyalty programme and things to take home may come later. We will share them here when they are ready.
Is an enquiry the same as a reservation or an order?
No. An enquiry or a WhatsApp message is not a reservation or an order, and nothing is held for you because of it. We will reply as soon as we can.
Contact and this website
How to reach us, and how this website looks after you.
How do I get in touch?
Say hello on WhatsApp or send us a message through the enquiry form. We do not have a phone line or email address to publish yet, so these are the quickest ways to reach us. We will reply as soon as we can.
What happens to the details I send?
We use them only to reply to you and, if you ask, to tell you when Annara opens. We never sell them, and we keep enquiries for no longer than twelve months unless we are working together. Our privacy notice has the full detail.
Can I turn down the movement on this site?
Yes. Choose Reduce motion at the foot of any page and the site stops its scrolling effects, moving images and reveals, while every word and picture stays in place. Choose it again to bring the movement back. If your device is already set to reduce motion, we follow that automatically.
Is Annara on Instagram?
Not yet. When our social pages are ready, we will link them here and at the foot of every page. Until then, this website is the best place to follow along, and you can always say hello on WhatsApp.
Still curious?
If your question is not here, ask us. A note on WhatsApp is the quickest way, or send a message through the form and we will write back. Every question helps us shape Annara before the doors open.
An enquiry is not a reservation or an order. We will reply as soon as we can.
