Accessibility statement
Annara should feel welcoming from the first click. Here is what this website does to work well for everyone, where it still falls short, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.
Last updated:

At a glance.
Six things this website does for every visitor, whatever device or way of browsing you use.
Keyboard friendly
Every link, button and field works from the keyboard, with a clear focus outline and a skip link.
Motion you control
Turn movement off with Reduce motion, or let the site follow your device setting.
Readable contrast
Text colours are checked against WCAG 2.2 AA, with main text far above the minimum.
Images described
Meaningful pictures carry text alternatives; decorative ones stay out of the way.
Forms without scripts
The enquiry form still sends if JavaScript is switched off or fails to load.
No surprise sound
Nothing on the website plays sound, automatically or otherwise.

Switch movement off or on for this whole website. The same switch sits at the foot of every page. Movement is on for you right now. Movement is off for you right now.
Our commitment
Annara is being made as a place where everyone feels welcome, and this website should be no different. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we treat accessibility as part of how the site is built, not a finishing touch.
This statement covers the website. Information about access at the café itself will follow as we open.
What this website does
Keyboard and focus
You can reach every link, button and form field with the keyboard alone, in a logical order. A visible outline shows where you are, and a Skip to content link at the very start of each page jumps past the navigation. The navigation menu closes with the Escape key.
Motion you control
The site uses gentle movement: headings that rise into place, photographs that drift as you scroll, short silent films and smooth scrolling. Choose Reduce motion at the foot of any page, or on this page, and all of it stops, while every word and picture stays in place. A small switch beside the words shows when motion is reduced, screen readers announce it as pressed, and choosing it again brings the movement back. Your choice is remembered on your device. If your device is already set to reduce motion, the site follows that setting from the moment it loads.
Colour and type
Text colours are checked against the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast requirements. Our main text on the light background reaches a contrast ratio of 14.4 to 1 and our secondary text 7.3 to 1, well above the 4.5 to 1 the guidelines ask for. Body text is set in Manrope at a comfortable size, and pages reflow to a single column on phones.
Images and language
Photographs that carry meaning have text alternatives that describe what they show. Decorative images and large background words are hidden from screen readers so they do not get in the way. Kannada words appear in Kannada script with their meaning in English alongside.
Structure and forms
Pages use clear headings, landmarks and breadcrumbs, so you can move around with a screen reader. The enquiry form has a visible label for every field, tells you if something needs fixing before it can be sent, and works even when JavaScript is switched off. Questions and answers use standard disclosure controls that work with keyboards and screen readers.
Sound
Nothing on the website plays sound, automatically or otherwise.
Known limitations
We would rather tell you about the gaps than leave you to find them.
- Where pages use moving images, they are silent and decorative. They carry no speech or information, so they have no captions or audio description, and they do not play when motion is reduced.
- WhatsApp, which we link to for conversations, is run by Meta, and its accessibility is outside our control. If it does not work well for you, the enquiry form reaches the same people.
- We do not yet publish information about physical access at the café, because the details are not final.
We are still improving. If something gets in your way, we want to know.
Access at the café
We will describe access at Annara, including the entrance, seating and facilities, here and on our visit page as we open. If you have a particular need, tell us now: it helps us as we plan, and we will be glad to talk it through.
How we check
We check every page with a keyboard, at phone and desktop sizes, with motion reduced, and against the WCAG 2.2 AA contrast requirements for text. We review new pages before they go live, and we will revisit this statement as the website grows.
Report a barrier.
If any part of this website is hard to use, please tell us. It helps to know the page, what you were trying to do and the device, browser or assistive technology you use, but any detail is welcome.
If you need something from the site in another format, ask us and we will do our best to help, in whatever way works for you.
